Visit Pinacoteca di Brera Museum

The Pinacoteca di Brera can be found in the Palazzo Brera in Milan's Brera district. The palace offers much more than just the Pinacoteca, as there is also the Brera Library, an Astronomical Observatory, the Botanical Gardens, the Lombard Institute of Science and Art and the Academy of Fine Arts.

The Pinacoteca di Brera art gallery

You will be able to see some of the most famous works of art here on a historical level. In the Brera Museum are objects from before the year 0, such as statues, vases and pitchers. From the year 1100 onwards, various types of art objects can be seen, for example paintings (including triptychs), mosaics and statues. These are often religious images of Mary with Child, John the Baptist, Jesus on the cross or people surrounded by angels. It was not until much later that architecture, animals, flowers and fruit were also painted. If you prefer classical works, you can indulge yourself in the Pinacoteca di Brera.

Brera Art Gallery layout

The Pinacoteca in Milan consists of 36 different spaces and these spaces are classified according to the century, art movement or type of art. For example, a separate room has been reserved for still lifes and portraits. Another room of the Brera Art Gallery is decorated with Italian painters and their work from the nineteenth century. In another room you can see the baroque arts of Rubens. A small part is devoted to modern paintings, such as those by Carlo Carrà, Gino Severini and Giorgio Morandi. One of the works of Pablo Picasso – who was fascinated by bulls – hangs here. Are you going to the Pinacoteca di Brera for a specific work of art? Before you leave the Brera Museum, check whether the artwork has not been lent or has been removed from the art gallery for restoration.

Tip for an activity with music

The Pinacoteca offers you once a month the chance to experience the different spaces of the art gallery while enjoying live music. The unique combination of classical works and special musicians put the works of art in a completely different light. Don't want to miss this unique evening?
