How to get from the airport (Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo) in the center of Milan? Tips for transport and transfers between the airport and Milan.

From airport to hotel in Milan

When flying to Milan there are three possible airports you can fly into. International Airport Malpensa (MXP) is located 50 kilometers northwest of Milan and is by far the largest airport. Airport Linate (LIN) is a smaller airport located 8 kilometers east of Milan. Finally, there is Milan Orio al Serio Airport, better known as Milan-Bergamo (BGY). This airport is located 50 kilometers west of Milan near the town of Bergamo and is often the destination for cheaper and budget airlines.

1. From Milan-Malpensa to city center

By bus: The cheapest option to travel the 50 kilometers to the center. There are three bus companies (Malpensa Bus Express, Terravision and Malpensa Shuttle) that will take you to the center of Milan (central station) in less than an hour. Buses usually run every 30 minutes. A single journey costs 10 euros and you can easily book tickets in advance (more info and tickets).

By train: Every half hour the Malpensa Express leaves from Malpensa airport towards the stations Milan Cardona or Milan Central. At the last destination you can also easily transfer to a metro at the Garibaldi stop. The journey takes about 50 minutes and a single train journey costs 15 euros and 8 for children aged 4-13 years (more info and tickets Malpensa Express).

By taxi: Since the airport is 50 kilometers from the city center, a taxi is an expensive option. The flat rate you will pay for a 45 minute ride is around 95 euros one way. Do you want a taxi transfer? Then I recommend to book this in advance via Welcome Pickups, where a driver will meet you at the airport with a name sign.

2. From Milan-Linate to the center

By bus: Numerous buses depart from Linate Airport to destinations in the center and the surrounding area of Milan. You can buy a ticket for a few euros. At this website you will find a clear overview with all possible bus lines. The two most logical bus lines are line 73, ending at the Duomo and secondly the popular Airbus which drops you off at the central station of Milan (fare is 5 euros and you can book your tickets online).

By taxi: The taxi is an affordable option from this airport which is only 8 kilometers from the city. The drive to you hotel is probably only 15 minutes and will cost around 30 euros with a meter. Taxis are readily available at the airport.

3. From Milan-Bergamo to the city center

By bus: By far the most economical and most chosen option to travel the 50 kilometers to Milan. There are several bus companies such as Terravision, Orio and Autostradale that have a shuttle bus between the airport and the central train station of Milan. The ride takes about an hour and costs a maximum of 10 euros, where you can easily book tickets in advance (more info and booking of tickets).

By taxi: A taxi ride to the center of Milan takes about an hour and will cost you at least 80 euros. Do you want a taxi transfer? Then I recommend to book this in advance via Welcome Pickups, where a driver will meet you at the airport with a name sign.

By train: A more complicated option. You will first need to take a bus or taxi to the station of Bergamo. From this station you can take the train to Milan.
